Preventive Care

Preventive dental care is a form of dental treatment that aids in maintaining excellent oral health. It's a mix of regular dental examinations and establishing the habit of flossing and brushing. Maintaining your dental health begins in the early years of childhood and continues throughout your life.

Oral Exams

An oral exam is performed on both new and existing patients to determine their dental and general health status. New patients receive a more comprehensive exam that includes x-rays, checks for gum and bone disease, systemic disorders, and oral cancer. A more routine exam is done for existing patients to see if there have been any changes in health since their last visit.

Digital X-Rays

Our office uses the latest in digital x-ray technology. Digital x-rays play an invaluable role in the diagnosis of dental problems and determination of appropriate treatments. They provide detailed information that isn't evident during an oral examination and lead to early identification of problem areas that may otherwise go undiscovered until they are more serious.

Cleanings

During a professional dental cleaning, the dentist will use a variety of instruments. The first step is using an ultrasonic; this machine vibrates gently to loosen and remove plaque, stains, and tartar from your teeth and gums. Afterward, the dentist will gently scrape to make sure anything left behind gets removed. After, they will polish your teeth with a special toothpaste that polishes and cleans your teeth. Lastly, the dentist will floss your teeth to make sure their surface feels perfectly smooth and clean.

Oral Cancer Screening

Did you know that oral/oropharyngeal cancer is the sixth deadliest cancer in the entire world? Roughly 50,000 new cases and 10,000 deaths are reported each year in the US. It is a growing problem among people 40 years of age and older, especially among smokers, smokeless tobacco users, and drinkers. When detected and treated early, survival rate is about 80%. During your visit to DAS you will be screened for oral cancer as part of the oral examination.
